SENIOR HEALTHCARE SUPPORT WORKER: THE ROLE

The role of a Senior Healthcare Support Worker is about providing high-quality and compassionate specialist health and social care for a range of people.

ABOUT THIS APPRENTICESHIP

This apprenticeship is for you if you want a role with typical job titles being Adult Nursing Support, Allied Health Profession and Mental Health Support.


This level 3 apprenticeship standard for Senior Healthcare Support Workers is for experienced support workers who help registered practitioners deliver healthcare services to people.

  • Qualification Topics

    • Principles and philosophy of health and social care.
    • Complex and routine clinical duties and care plans.
    • Patient assessment and coordination of care.
    • Infection prevention and control.
    • Team management, including delegating tasks, and training, mentoring and supervising colleagues.
    • Supporting specialist senior healthcare support workers in their duties.
    • Promoting health and well-being.
    • Specialist skills for: Adult nursing or Allied health profession -therapy support.
  • What's Involved

    • Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support, either:

    Level 3 Diploma in Clinical Healthcare Support (England)(for Senior Health Care Support Workers -Adult Nursing Support -Option 1)


    or


    Level 3 Diploma in Allied Health Profession Support (England)(for Senior Health Care Support Workers -Allied Health Profession -Therapy Support -Option 6).


    • The Care Certificate and Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check(to be passed/achieved during the apprenticeship induction, if not already held).
    • Level 2 Functional Skills in English & Maths (if not already held).
    • On & Off the Job Training and Ongoing Assessment.
    • A Learning Journal (reflective self assessment including a portfolio of evidence).
    • Mock End Point Assessments
    • End Point Assessment (after at least 18 months and successful completion of the above): Multiple-choice & short answer test, Practical Observation, Review of Learning Journal and Interview leading to the Apprenticeship Achievement Certificate (Pass, Merit or Distinction).

Duration

This Apprenticeship is typically completed in 18 months.

Delivery

Delivered online with remote support from Rewards Training throughout the apprenticeship.
